ANCIENT NEAR EAST
One of the main research areas of PHI is the Ancient Near East, i.e. the study of the ancient civilizations of the Middle East region – such as the literature and culture preserved in Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittite, Old Egyptian, Old Iranian, Hebrew, Ugaritic and a host of other languages.
